If you’ve seen a light fixture that sits on a rail, slides freely left and right, and rotates to point in any direction — that’s a track light. The magnetic version is the next generation of the same concept, and it makes adjusting your lighting dramatically easier.
Traditional track lights require you to rotate and lock a fixture into position mechanically. Removing or moving one involves turning and force.
Magnetic track lights use magnetic attachment. The fixture snaps onto the rail by magnetic contact, immediately draws power, and can be:

The track rail carries 48V DC current along its length at all times. When a fixture is placed on the rail, metal contact points on the back of the fixture make electrical contact with conductors in the rail. Current flows immediately — no wiring connection is required.
This is why the system can be reconfigured without electricians. There’s no wire to connect or disconnect; power is delivered through the rail contact.
Standard household current is 220V AC. Magnetic track systems convert this to 48V DC before it reaches the rail.
48V DC is below the voltage threshold that poses meaningful risk to a person with normal skin resistance under dry conditions. The rail carries live current, but contact with it produces at most a mild sensation — not a dangerous shock. This makes the system practical for homes with children and for retail staff who adjust fixtures regularly.

Magnetic track lighting is a long-term investment because nothing about it is fixed. The rail is permanent; everything else can be changed. Unlike downlights (which lock you into the original ceiling plan forever), a magnetic system adapts as the room adapts.
